Nick & Kim - 06.27.09

One of our greatest moments as photographers is when we get to share in the day with good friends!  Even more special is that we knew Nick before Kim entered his life (Nick was one of Brian's roommates the year before we got married).  We got to see their relationship begin and Saturday was the perfect culmination of their courtship! Everything about the day was beautiful, from the location, to the dress, the music and the support and love of family and friends.  Kim, you win the award so far on my favorite dress to date....it fit your personality so perfectly!  Brides if you are looking at getting married in Michigan, check out Slayton Arboretum at Hillsdale College! Here are a few favorites from the day.

Nick and Kim we wish you the best and are so excited that we are almost neighbors...yay!

Three Years Ago Today...

Three years ago today...Brian and I married!  I remember feeling like so many brides we see....nervous + full of anticipation + so excited + an amazing man = the perfect start to a new chapter in our lives!  I love you, Brian!

Yes, this is us in the wheat field....we laugh as we remember that our photographer kept calling it a bean field (since Brian is a farm boy, he could hardly keep a straight face)

Baby Phoenix: A new angel

As a wife, mom, friend and photographer, I get to witness so many life changing moments.  Most of them are full of joy; a wedding, a family, a new baby, a senior getting ready graduate and so on.  This past weekend we witnessed on of those moments, but it wasn't the joyous events we are used to.  Brian and I faced the hardest shoot we have ever had when one of our dear friends lost their little baby boy at 24 weeks.  As a mother, I can't fathom the pain, as a friend, I am heartbroken.  In every tragic moment, there is always a positive and I would have to say that at the funeral yesterday, I saw one of those.  The love of all their family and friends was amazing to watch as everyone gathered to share their support.

Chris and Laura, we love you and our hearts are broken.

Happy Fathers Day

Brady wanted to tell his daddy "Happy Fathers Day" !

Brian couldn't be here for his first father's day...he had to travel to Colorado on business, so we decided to snap a few pictures for him!

Brady refused to look at the camera...the grass was far to interesting...and obviously he thought it tasted good too!

so happy fathers day to all the fathers out there!!!!

Joe & Erin: 06.06.09

Joe & Erin are married!  First off, I have to say "WOW" to Erin.  She pulled of a spectacular wedding and had more details and items of importance than any bride that we have worked with.  To everyone who knows us, we love the details that make your day unique and your own... so we had so much to work with...it was awesome!  (I am only showing some, or this blog post would be ridiculously long)  Joe & Erin, we had a blast sharing your wedding day with you guys and your wedding party was fantastic!  Enjoy the pictures!

Second Shooting: Michael & Laura

Once or twice a season, I typically second shoot with another photographer and last Saturday was one of those days!  I shot with Shawna Schaub (check out her blog for more) for Michael and Laura's wedding in Culver, Indiana.  I love the chapel at Culver...it has beautiful architecture and natural light!  Second shooting is always fun and I get the opportunity to look at the day a little different than when I am the lead.  I started my day out with Michael and the guys!  Here are a few favorites.

Jason & Maggie: 05.09.09

Jason & Maggie are married!

Last weekend they tied the knot, with both the ceremony and reception at Fountain Square Theater. Maggie was stunning in her simple yet antique style gown and everything about the day was beautiful (well, it was a little windy!) There were a bunch of little kids involved in the day and I would have to say, that they all did a fantastic job (especially with no naps)...and added a lot of extra character!  Here are some highlights from the day.  I hope you guys are having a fabulous time in Hawaii!!!

I loved this personal touch...Maggie's dressmaker embroidered their name and date into it!

Trey & Jennifer: 05.02.09

The minute I woke up, I knew Saturday was going to be a fantastic day....why? Well the forecast all week said it was going to rain the whole day...but the sun had other plans!  Trey and Jennifer, what a wonderful couple.  Not only was their love and affection evident, but they both are so happy, easygoing and fun.  Jennifer put a lot of work and time into the details of the day, from her grandmother's jewelry to her bright orange shoes...so much fun! (not to mention, the colts bus, parasols and Drumline!)

I had way to many images that I wanted to post, but I forced myself to narrow it down (well if you count 25 as narrowed)

Enjoy!

Jennifer wanted a train track shot..how perfect!  We just happened to time it with a train!!!

Legacy

I have always loved hands and feet.  I believe that everyone's are unique and every set tells a story.  Back in college, during my film days, we did a series of self portraits and all of mine were of my hands and feet.  To parallel those images, I captured a series of my Grandma Cantu's hands as she made tortillas.  That was 8 years ago, but those images will remain forever timeless to me.

This past weekend, was one of those moments again.  We headed up North for an extended weekend to see family (It was our last weekend before we dive into our wedding season)!  Brady got to visit with both of his great grandma's and I was able to capture some of their time together.

I think the pictures say it well: How important legacy and memories are.

Joe & Erin: Engagement Session

Saturday was a perfect picture day, well except that all the puffy clouds disappeared as we started to work.  But despite that one small detail, we had a great time with Joe and Erin and enjoyed shooting in the spring weather.  We met Joe and Erin last year at Justin and Nichole's wedding...(they have some fun traditions...that you'll get to see in June) and their wedding date is quickly approaching, so you will be seeing them soon again.

Here are a few favorites from their engagement session!
